Hello, I recently had an external hard drive stop working. Long story short, it's now installed inside and doesn't disconnect like it had been as an external however the format is not recognized and asks to be formatted. The only reason I'm doing this is to get the data back so plan b will be to quick format and try recovery but since the drive was password protected I imagine that won't work? Is there a way to get windows to read it properly?
I saw a video saying to use electrical tape on one pin of the sata connection but I'm not sure if that's for this version or not.
The external drive is a WD my book 1tb.

Thank you

Solution
no on electrical tape
no on format and recovery
yes on fixing the external. might want to contact WD

video is useless. your issue is getting your data back, which is hardware encrypted

lesson here is backup your data.
