Basically the title :)

I just installed Kali on my main rig, and now (for Christmas compatibility reasons) I want to go back to windows. Tried using KillDisk and it 'kills' the hdd alright, but when I try booting from a windows 7 install usb key, it throws me into the GRUB rescue terminal. Not exactly sure what to do so PLEASE respond soon.

Solution
If you are booting into the USB what's on your hard drive doesn't come into play until you actually begin the install which will remove GRUB as part of the partitioning for windows. Is it booting to the Win7 USB and later giving you problems or right off the bat? If right away check your boot order in the BIOS and try the USB in another computer to make sure it's good.
If you want to get rid of grub on a disk just use dd to write zeros to the first 446 bytes on disk

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=446 count=1

If grub still pops up, grub must exist elsewhere. How have you made the USB? Did you put grub on USB?

GRUB is installed to the Master Boot Record (MBR). I removed GRUB from a Windows/Ubuntu dual boot PC as follows. (1.) Booted from the Windows-7 Installation Disk. (2.) Select 'Repair your Computer.' (3) Select Windows 7 as the OS to repair. (4) Take the Command Prompt option. (5.) At the command prompt, type Bootrec /FixMbr then press enter. Real quick, you'll see you were successful.
Here is a link to a page I referred to when doing this:

What I later figured out was that I needed to merge the partitions together to get my entire hard disk back. This can be accomplished in total using the Disk Management utility in Windows. You do not need 3rd party utilities. Look on the web for a how-to...remember that you make the unused partitions "unallocated." You can only extend a partition to the right of the partition you are extending. Work right to left. I do not consider myself an expert...I have done this once, and that was some time ago. So be sure to read a "how to" on merging partitons with Windows 7 Disk Management.
