So I just got a used Intel Core 2 duo e8600 today and it had some scratches on it but the ebay listing said that is was working perfect and it was a trusted seller that had multiple. So I installed the processor and cleaned the heat sync with rubbing alcohol and the cpu. I put a tiny grain of rice of thermal paste on the cpu and I then proceeded to put the heat sync on. When I was inserting the heat sync I kind of didnt put it straight down and so I think that it kind of made contact with the heat sync and then I moved it forwards a little more and inserted the cpu. I am using coretemp to see my temps and they are getting up to around 60 degrees celcius just using chrome and fraps.

Is this normal. I read that my cpus max temp is 72 C. As I was running far cry 3 it was getting up to 67 C. Can anybody help me? Should I clean the cpu and start again?

i would reinstall(start fresh)

Do you think that my cpu is overheating?

Yes try to install again. 60 degrees on just chrome is not good, it will easily go up to 80+ when you are in a game or something. Try installing again, a normal cpu temp on near idling should be 37 to 40 degrees not more...

Every time that I install it and open it back up it seems that it isnt covering the entire processor. Would it be bad to put a dot in the midddle of each quadrant? I feel like that would really spread it through the entire processor. If not then I will put a straight line that will spread out.
