First and foremost, I was trying to give an old computer to my brother-in-law's son. The computer itself is about 7 years old, with no mods done to it. I finished getting all the old BS off the HDD, and then we were going to reformat it.

However, his dad mentioned that he had a stick of 8bg RAM laying around (Corsair DDR3-1600) and that MOBO had 2x2GB DDR3-1333 RAM. So I figured might as well give it a little boost.

We put the 8gb stick in the slot one of the 2gb sticks was in, and we took out the other 2gb stick. Start it up, won't POST with those beeps.

We put the old RAM back in, same slots, same error.

I am wondering, RAM cannot short out a board unless it is faulty correct? So what's the problem? Any help would be appreciated.
