Hey guys I just built a new system and installed the motherboard drivers including the USB drivers and when I restarted the computer I can no longer use my USB devices. I can use them to enter and change values in my BIOS but I do not see an option to correct the issue.

Motherboards - Msi z170a

OS -Windows 7 64 bit

If it's asking you to press a key to start from disc then you are booting from the disc. Nothing should be loading from the HDD at this point, so if this is just a driver issue then your keyboard should work there.

If it's...
It was a brand new build so it was a fresh install then we had everything working fine except the audio port on the motherboard for external speakers. I grabbed the motherboard disk and reinstalled all the drivers on the disk and did a restart and am not able to use my mouse or keyboard. I just tried putting the windows 7 disk in and actually can't choose to install since it will not allow me to move the mouse/keyboard

Were your keyboard and mouse working fine before you installed the drivers? It's possible that you installed the wrong USB drivers.

Those drivers should have just been for your USB 3 ports as Windows 7 supports USB 2 natively. Try connecting your keyboard to one of the USB 2 ports on your mobo. Also, some mobos are finicky about which ports they like the keyboard/mouse connected to. The safest best is to connect your keyboard to one of the first two port (pick the one closest to the motherboard).

If that doesn't work, try to see if you can still boot into safe mode (hold F8 as windows boots) and uninstall the bad drivers from there.

Final option might be a repair install of Windows 7 (which won't delete your data), of just a full clean install since this is a new system. If you go this route, consider installing Windows 10 instead. It works better with more modern technologies that Windows 7 didn't have in mind when it was built, and it has native USB 3 support (so no need for drivers). I realize that not everyone likes Windows 10, so just take this as a suggestion.

Yeah, sorry. Took to long to write that post. Didn't see any post after your first 😛

Also, I would think the F8 check would happen before the drivers are loaded, so it's still possible it might work.

Are you trying to start the install process from within Windows? Since you can still get into your bios try booting from the disc directly. Pay attention as you boot, as it will ask you to press a key to boot into the installer instead of windows on your hard disk.

Also, don't ever install the drivers from the disc. Download the latest drivers from the manufacturers website instead.

I unfortunetly do not have any ps2 equipment to try.
The devices were working perfectly before the restart.
I can enter through safe mode via F8 but was having the same issue, any particular safe mode needed? Such as with networking etc.
I'm having the same issue with sub 2&3 and tried in every port.
I can't install Windows from within Windows since I can't log in

Finally it asks me to press a key to start from the disk. Yea I will no longer use the included disks over the most up to date drivers online

If it's not working and you can't get into the windows installer, then it's possible we're looking at a BIOS issue. Remember when I said Windows 7 doesn't play well with newer tech (including USB 3)? A lot of modern motherboards have a Windows 7 mode that allows USBs, etc. to work until you can install drivers for them, at which point I believe you are supposed to turn those settings off. Check your BIOS and motherboard manual to see if you have an option for this, and try playing around with it if you do.

I am able to press a key and enter the installer but when it reaches the point where I choose the language and press next I have no way of doing so. I haven't seen any options like that in my bios but will check the manual now

Z170A is one of MSIs product lines, with multiple boards bearing that name. Which specific board in that line do you have?

Also, your mouse drivers/software (assuming there are any) should come from your mouse manufacturer. The drivers MSI provides you likely won't help with your mouse being slow. Check the mouse settings in control panel if you want to speed up your mouse while looking for drivers.
