Got a new CPU, its the proper socket an everything and i updated my bios so everything should be fine, but will i need to reinstall windows 8 for a new cpu? I bought a pre built pc it didnt come with a windows 8 disc or anything so if i did i would need to back up my hardrive... another question.. I turned my comp off and the power button was blinking red.. why is this? I havent even replaced the cpu yet. The comp still turned on and works fine though/

Solution
New CPU does not require a Windows reinstall. If the motherboard supports, simply install the new CPU, making sure to install the heatsink correctly as well, and boot up.

strange... The cpu worked fine and the comp booted up but what do u know? its asking me to re activate windows 8... do i need blow 100 bucks or can i get my old windows 8 back?

thanks for the reply i figured it out i had to call support and reactivate it
