Installing a new GPU having trouble getting it to work

So i got a new GPU (ge force gtx 980 G1 gaming) to replace my current (ge force gtx 960). Problem is when i install it i cant get any signal out of my MOBO so that i can put the install disc in for the new one. What am i doing wrong on installing the new card? I know the psu is big enough. Should i install the drivers before installing the new one? Help!

You should have your monitor plugged into the video card not the motherboard.

When i do that i have no signal as well, thats why i thought maby it needed the install disc first

it should actually work with the 960 driver. Then update to the new driver.
