Hello,

I have recently bought a Samsung EVO and transferred my OS to the SSD. Opening Samsung Magician I get lower than optimal speeds because it tells me I do not have AHCI enabled.

I am not sure what this is and how I get it enabled. I am not sure I even have it.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte Ga 78 lmt s2p model. I searched the internet for AHCI drivers and downloaded them once but I don't know how to install them or if they are necessary. I am a complete beginner to this stuff. What should I do?

Thank you very much for your help.

You should install the operating system in AHCI mode, that is, with the SATA controller set to AHCI. IDE is the default selection.

(page 29 of rev 5 motherboard manual)
>>Native IDE Allows the SATA controller to operate in Native IDE mode. (Default)
Enable Native IDE mode if you wish to install operating systems that support Native mode.

>>RAID Enables RAID for the SATA controller.

>>AHCI Configures the SATA controllers to AHCI mode. Advanced Host Controller Interface
(AHCI) is an interface specification that allows the storage driver to enable advanced Serial ATA features such as Native Command Queuing and hot plug.

The GA-78LMT-S2P is a low-end economy model that does not use SATA 6Gb/s controllers...

ACHI is something that is controlled in the BIOS.

Restart your system, and enter the BIOS by pressing the assigned key (usually DEL or F2) when prompted - if your PC loads too quick, just spam the key after restarting.

Once in, navigate the menus until you get to something akin to 'drive options' or 'boot options'. From there, you should be able to change your SSDs settings to AHCI if its not already.
