Background information. I have no PCI slots I can use. Unplugging cables and connecting the new to the SSD is very scary. If there is even room. Here are some pictures of inside the case, with relevant stuff circled.

And so my question is: Is using one of these insanity.

Does it work or is it a scam for people like me that don't really know what they are doing? And if it does work, does it negate the benefits of using an SSD?

Not entirely sure which part of this is causing you trouble to determine. To me it looks like you've removed one of the caddies in the hard drive bay, so you do have space for an additional drive. I'm not sure of the adapter you've linked; do you need it to be hot swappable? I would suggest just an ordinary 3.5" to 2.5" adapter. There are cheaper ones on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Valuegist-Internal-Mounting-Bracket-Adapter/dp/B07GLSL6DF

Of course this will only be of much use if you have an unused SATA port. From the pictures it looks like you have a lot of devices there.

Also not entirely sure why you mentioned PCI. There are SSDs which uses PCIe slots, and are technically faster than SATA SSDs; but these PCIe SSDs typically aren't installed in a drive bay.

Only mentioned PCI to rule it out. The SATA cable is mounted so I can't just install an 2.5 to 3.5 mounting frame. The SDD SATA part needs to line up with cables mounted to the case.

I am bad at this kinda stuff. So if adapter I linked worked, that would makes things a lot easier.
