So I'm upgrading a T5500 from a E5606 to an X5660. Any tips or anything I should know? The current BIOS is on A09. Should I update to A16? I have the aluminium heat sink do I need to change to the copper heat sink or a third party heat sink?

Solution
I believe the E5606 and X5660 belong to the same generation and should use the same bios. You can take a look at the release notes to the A16 to see if it says anything about compatibility. Since you are upgrading, it might be best to update.
You don't necessarily need a new heatsink, but you will want to check temps to make sure your cpu doesn't overheat. Some Dell motherboards don't fit 3rd party heat sinks. I'm not sure about your T5500.
