Hey there.

I'd like to change my router's firmware (in this case Ubiquiti AirRouter) to DD-WRT or any other firmware. I'm just sick of AirOS, because I can't assign port range and static ARP's are just bugging out. I've read something on DD-WRT and I see it supports it. Now here come's the question. Am I really able to change the firmware without messing my router up? What if I mess something up, will router become junk?

If you need any other information, please ask me. Thanks in advance.

So, the free version of DD-WRT doesn't work. You will have to buy an "Activation" license (20 euro). Can you "brick" a router by using alternate firmware. Yes. Is it likely, No. I have used DD-WRT on Linksys routers and never had a problem. Sometimes going BACK to stock firmware can be tricky, but usually going to DD-WRT isn't difficult or dangerous.

Hi, thank you for answering.
The license is quite cheap, so that's no problem. However, there are 2 bin files/images available to download. TFTP and Webflash. Which one and where can I flash/upload it? Can I just upload it in web UI under System tab?

That is two different types of install. Do you have a TFTP server? If so then the TFTP file is correct. If you are using the web interface to update the WebFlash would be correct.
I don't have one of those routers, There is a UBIQUITI group on the DD-WRT forum. I recommend you read through it before flashing.

Hi, I'm sorry for bumping this. Since DD-WRT has an inactive forum, I'll ask here. So, I may have bricked my router. It turns on just fine, but I can't ping to 192.168.1.1. I did 30/30/30 (hard reset) and the LAN LED lights are flashing like 1, 3 and 2, 4 with delay. I've heard it means that it's TFTP mode but I tried TFTP'ing newest AirOS software (I wanted to revert because DD-WRT kinda wasn't working) and it was like it didn't detect router: It wrote Timeout occurred. What do I do?
