I have a Dell Poweredge 2900. I want to install sata drivers on there so I can install windows onto the server. But I have an issue. How do I install the drivers onto the bootable usb for window server? Please help.

Solution
You added in a SATA card correct? Turn off the server and take it out. Look on the main chip. Might say something like SIL3112 or something like that.
What version of windows server are you trying to install?

I know they do not have any onboard SATA and rely on the SCSI RAID and onboard IDE for drives.

if you are booting anything Server 2008 and up it will be easy.

How exactly is your setup? The times I have installed server 2008+ this is what I do.

Install SATA card, install SATA dvd drive, boot off DVD. When it is asking for a driver put the correct drivers on a USB drive from another PC and then plug it in to the PE and then browse to that folder for the drivers. It should detect them and then continue the install. Once the install has gone though they drivers will now be in the Server 2008.

Okay, thank you! but do you have any idea where I can get these drivers? I searched and couldnt find the proper ones..
Like for instance I need Perc 5i drivers. I download some I found but they arent showing up when I put them on the flashdrive and install them on windows set up

Server 2008 and up HAVE all the PERC drivers installed. It is more than likely asking or any SATA drivers that you have your DVD rom drive plugged into. I though the same exact thing until i realized it was the SATA card i installed that it was asking for drivers and NOT the PERC 5i drivers. So get the drivers for the SATA card you are using NOT the PERC. You only need the PERC drivers for XP/Server 2003 and lower. For Vista and 2008 + the drivers are built in.

How do I know which sata card I have?? And im installing 2008.
