Installing GTX 970 GAMING

Just a quick question, I just got my MSI GTX 970 GAMING today. This is the first time that I'm building my own gaming desktop.

Is it okay not to connect the 8pin connection on the VCard itself considering that I connected the 6pin pcie connection from the 6pin port from my VCard to the PSU?

I recommend using those 8 pin. Those PCIe are mainly for connecting to MoBo and doing SLI.

You need to connect both whether it be 6pin+6pin, 6pin+8pin or 8pin+8pin.
If you don't connect both the pc most likely wont boot and/or display an error on the screen stating to plug in the power plugs to the graphics card.

but can i still use that 6pin pci connector to connect from the vcard's 6pin straight to the psu?
i got 1 8pin connector coming from the vcard, but the main problem is, i dont know where the other end of that 8pin that has a 6pin plug on it connects. 🙁

i dont see any 6pin port in my tower i already checked all the wires.. im really excited to test this vcard i need help 🙁

thank you for your reply. actually i havent yet run that desktop where my gtx 970 is currently plugged. im using my laptop to get help on installing my video card. 🙁

my previous card was an asus gtx 650 vcard that doesnt need to have pins to plug so im absolutely ignorant on installing this one.

i think i got it all mixed up

i have an 8pin connector that is included from the vcard that i purchased, and connected the other end of the 8 pin which only has a 6pin port straight to the 6pin pcie connector going to the psu.

but what i am concern now is the other 6pin port on my video card, i think i dont have a spare 6pin connector to connect that one straight to the psu aswell..

What powersupply are you currently using?
It sounds like the powersupply is either old without the necessary plugs or it's a low wattage powersupply.

you are correct!

i just noticed that my old power supply doesnt have an 8pin connector. i did read from forums to forums here and there, i just also purchased a new psu *fsp aurum s 700w 80 plus gold* and ditched out that *aerocool xstrike 600w 80 plus bronze*

just installed the psu earlier and im quite happy with it 1thing i notice though its a litttle bit small one but i also read its ( if not the top tiers psu) considered as great unit that is bang for the buck
