Hey guys, new to the forum. I am doing my first build and am carrying over a few components from my current PC to the new one.

My HDD already has Windows 7 Ultimate installed and is running with my current PC (i7 920, Dell MB, ATI Radeon HD 5870 gpu). I am going to be switching those with an Asus MB, AMD FX6300 and a Asus R9 270x gpu.

How do I do the OS install? Do I need to reinstall W7 after everything is hooked up in the new build?

Solution
its ok to have win7 installed on the hdd.just make sure to boot to your install dvd/usb and do a clean install.there will be an option to format the disk and delete all partitions.do this.just make sure you back up any data you need from that hdd before doing this.
Hello... The problem that encounters is that your MB chipset drivers will be different from the Win 7 HD... so have them ready to install... and the previous Win7 install will work... sometimes it doesn't... And the other thing is you are going from a Intel to a AMD install... its a try and find out situation.

really, the chances of this working are slim to none.assuming you can get it to boot at all,you will likely have loads of other problems with services and drivers.the best way to proceed here would be to backup all your data and do a clean install of windows on your new computer.

Hello... Yes... "too have them ready" would be to have them on a flash drive. It will only take a few minutes to find out, once you boot with the Drive... it will not break anything to try it. That how we all learn and science expands... from trial and error and not from pre-conculsions.
The Best option here tho, is a fresh install on a new drive so you can save all your OLD DATA drive in a intact original condition.

its okay that W7 will already be installed on the hdd prior ro booting everything up on the new build? Also sorry for all the questions, it's my first build and while I have gone through installing OS's on fresh HDD's I have not done it on one like this.
