Installing MSI GTX 970

Hello Guys

I had MSI GTX 570 but after dusting it didn't work (maybe because of electricity) and I bought a GTX 970 MSI . Since it has different pin I don't know how to install it ? GTX 570 has 2 x 6 pin that right one is PCI-E but this one has one 6pin and one 8 pin . Can you help me how to change those pin and install this graphic card?

And how to prevent from static electricity in computer when I'm replacing Graphic Card? ( I don't one to same happen to this new Graphic card )

My system:
CPU : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz
Motherboard : ASUS P8Z68 PRO
Power supply : XFX 700 watts

I cannot see 8 pin but it has two six pin + one 2 pin that together provide 8 pin! But I don't know which one goes to which one?

MSI GTX 970 comes with 6 pin to 8 pin connector :

Your power supply connectors should be 6+2pin - so use the 6pin part on the 6pin connector and use the 6+2pin part on the 8pin connector.

I gather your power supply is a XFX750 PRO

plug a 6-pin from the psu into the cards 6 pin connector, and plug the 6+2 (yeah, that +2 part goes with the 6-pin) and plug that into the 8-pin connector on the card. they should be keyed to only go in 1 way. and ground yourself to prevent damage from static electricity, by touching something metel around you, and dont wear socks on carpet, etc.

correct. My power supply is a XFX PRO 750 .

does it matter if I connect 6 pin PCI-E in 6 connector and then conncet PCI-E 6+2 pin in 8 pin connector on graphic card? what is different between those PCI-E and non PCI-E?

when I should use MSI 's connector?

what do you think about cause of dying my graphic card when I was dusting? can I repair it?

only pcie power cables will fit in the card, so if it doesnt go in easily dont try to force it in, and the pcie power cables should be labled somewhere on the psu or in the manual. and you may have killed the origional card by building up static electricity in your body, then touching the card, be careful of that. it is not repairable.

Thanks, yes it has label as PCI-E but there is a cable that doesn't have label and currently is connected to my old graphic card! beside the 6 pin PCI-E I don't know what is that, it is same as PCI-E one.

So I should connect both 6 pin PCI-E and 6+2 pin PCI-E to graphic card and forget that unknown cable?

Yes, that other cable is probably just another pcie cable.

Don't use it at all. Is not needed with your good PSU.
