Installing New SSD

I am installing a new Samsung 120gb SSD. I currently have a 1tb hard drive. Can I install the SSD, install Windows on it, explore the hard drive to back up my important data to the SSD, then format the hard drive? I unfortunately do not have any external drives I can back up to. Thanks!

Yes. remember to disconnect the HDD during the OS install to the SSD. Also at some point in the near future hopefully, you need to figure out how to backup your important files. What happens if your PC gets struck by lightning and takes all the drives with it. - You'll be glad to have a copy somewhere else - qffsite.

I've been trying to get an external drive for a long time. I can't afford much else unfortunately. I have been making do with cloud storage.
