I am trying to install MGI Photosuite II on a Windows 8 computer. It pops up a message saying it needs Windows NT Service Pack 3 or better before it can install. I thought a service pack was just an update to a OS? What do I need to do to install this program? Thanks!

As you said, it requires specific files. It worked on the old Windows XP computer, so why can't I copy over those files?

Thanks, that's not a bad idea. A newer version of this program or a program by the same people might work and might not be so different from this one.

Because those files are a part of the OS requiring the entire OS to work how the program expects it to. The same reason I can't just run a Linux app on my windows PC by copying some files over to it.

Then is there a way to point the program to the new version of those files in Windows 8? It said in the error message that a newer version could also work.

Lastly:
Do not assume 'Dad' is clueless regarding new applications. He's using Windows 8.1, right?

There is nothing in MGI Photosuite II that does not also exist in any graphics application from this decade. It may be called something else, but it is there.

Sure. If it exists.

It does not.

Nope Windows has basically been rewritten at least twice since then could be more I'm not 100% sure on the number of times.
