I need some help. I'm installing;

i5-4690k

on

Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-GAMING 5 motherboard

I don't build computers very often (Once every 5 years or so). I'm following instructions on toms hardware + motherboard instructions. As you know, there are no pins on CPU. I have aligned the triangle from CPU with triangle from Motherboard socket.

I'm trying to replace the load plate (it's hinged as you know) and push lever back down into place. It seems awfully hard to push lever down. I'm afraid to push it down any harder as I don't want to bend the arm (literally feels like I could), or screw anything up. Should it need that much force? It goes half way real easy before getting real hard to push. I don't remember my other builds being like this. It's obvious the restriction is where lever goes into the hinge on load plate. Appears it's designed to start applying pressure at hinge point when lever reaches 1/2 way point. I'm sure you guys already know this. I'm just tying to provide as much info as possible. I could take a picture, but have nowhere online to host it (i.e imgur, photobucket).

Solution
I had thesame concern when I build my system but it seems its pretty normal. I've also heard of some people hearing a sort of crunching noise the first time they put the cpu in and lock it down. I would hate to pretend like I know exactly how much resistance you're talking about and tell you its fine and then you damage your cpu, but I can tell you I remember my 4690k being really hard to lock down once the lever got about half way down. I double checked everything was lined up, closed my eyes, held my breath, and pushed. All ended well. 😀

It worked. While I did not bend the arm, it's under enough pressure that it's flexing some. I can't tell from the angle on that video if his is flexing quite as much, but it makes sense that it would do that.

Thanks everyone.
