Installing W2K Pro on GA-6VXE+

I am trying to install Windows 2000 Professional on an older PC. It is an
Intel Celeron 400MHz with 196M of RAM. The motherboard is a Giga-Byte
GA-6VXE+.

The installation works OK, but as soon as I install SP4, the computer only
boots as far as the login screen and then reboots.

I have changed the memory, processor etc, but I believe that it is an issue
specific to this motherboard. The BIOS of this board has been updated. I
cannot find any specific information regarding this problem. This is the 4th
PC that I have that is battling with the same problem. The others were
dumped. Unfortunately I need this PC to work ASAP.

Have you checked the Win2K HCL?

Have you tried installing an SP4 version to start with, rather than
upgrading to the service pack? Or how about removing as many components as
you can and installing them (with the very latest drivers!) after applying
SP4?
