Installing Windows 10 from a external HDD

So, I've followed this guide. http://www.intowindows.com/install-windows-8-from-external-hard-drive/

To format an HDD, allowing it to install Windows 10. My question is if I can use this on a new build and If I did it correctly or not. I followed all the steps but my only concern is that when I exported the ISO to the HDD it did not show any files. Regardless I still completed the later steps with no problems.

I would just try it but my new build isn't ready yet so I can't exactly just test it. Thank you for your consideration.

Better if you use a USB flash drive

Did you extract what was in the ISO??

You cant boot from the ISO itself. And it would be better if you use something like Rufus

I followed the guide so yes I did extract what was in the ISO. I did so using Winrar. As for Rufus, is that just to avoid user error? If I follow the guide I linked in the OP, shouldn't it work just fine?

Start form here format it download the media tool and go though that it should give you the option to use the hard drive.
