My PC blue screened last week. It was too quick to see the error message. Then I was stuck in the automatic repair loop.

After some testing, I think the HDD failed (which has win 10 on it). I tested it using a usb adapter and none of the testing services showed any info about it (beyond it was detected). I also got the 0xc00000e error .

I have a SSD and want to install Windows on it. I've got a USB stick with Windows 10 on it (downloaded from Microsoft). However, I'm having difficulties installing it.

The USB stick is detected but when I boot from it, the Asus or Windows logo appears, the spinning circle appears for a couple of seconds, then a red line flashes across the screen and the PC reboots. Then the cycle starts over, again and again.

I've tried fiddling with the BIOS settings, taken the GPU out, and nothing works.

If anyone has any help that would be greatly appreciated.

PC Specs
Mobo: ASUS H81M-PLUS - - - Bios Version 2104
RAM: 2 x Kingston 8GB
SSD: Crucial MZ500
PSU: EVGA 500W
CPU: Intel i7-4790k
USB stick: SanDisk 32GB

Recreate the bootable USB installer in order to rule out a corruption with your installer.

EVGA 500W Power Supply
How old is your PSU?

ASUS H81M-PLUS
+
Intel Core i7-8700 Processor
The processor can't drop into that motherboard's socket since the socket is incompatible;
Either you got the processor's model wrong or the wrong motherboard.

What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard at this moment of time? Disable CSM, Fast Boot and Secure Boot in BIOS and then select USB installer from boot override menu in BIOS.

Does this flash stick boot on a working pc?

If so unplug all disk on the problem pc and see if the flash stick will boot.

Sorry got to cpu mixed up - it's a 4th gen i7. Don't have the exact name to hand right now but the PC worked fine before this issue.

And I have tried those BIOS settings. I'll send the bios version tomorrow - do you think updating it could help?

OK, stop.

Come back when you can give us a clear and accurate parts list.
Make/mode of everything.

Thanks.

I've updated the specs in the original post.

Also, I tried putting windows 11 on the usb. When I insert the usb and boot from it, the PC shows the windows 11 logo, the circular spinner appears from 3ish seconds, then screen goes blank and the PC reboots.

Not sure if relevant but the SSD does have stuff on it but there's definitely space.

I've also tried unplugging SSD and the other drives (DVD player) and exactly the same.

(Update) I've connected my SSD to laptop and I can see windows boot files on it. I must have had windows on both hard drive and SSD? However the SSD is MBR and not UEFI - do I need to convert the SSD?

Follow this tutorial exactly.
Starting at Step 1.

Tell us where, precisely, it fails.

"Start the computer and after it completes the POST initialization process it should identify and boot from the attached USB or optical drive containing the installation media and begin the installation. Verify that the language, time/currency and keyboard input fields are all correct. Click Next." -

At this step. When I boot the PC windows logo appears, spiny thing comes up for 2 seconds, screen goes black, reboots and exactly the same. Unplugged DVD drive so the only thing on BIOS is the USB and SSD.

And this is using a USB, freshly created with the MediaCreation tool?

Double check that you are actually booting from the usb.
Does it do the same thing without the usb in ? Then you probably are not booting from the usb.
Also try an alternative boot usb with some version of linux on it, ubuntu is always a popular choice, if that also crashes if would point to some more serious hardware issue.
