what does it mean if you have integrated graphics on your motherboard.

if you have ig on both your motherboard and your cpu do the connectors on the motherboard interface to the motherboard or the cpu?

is there any advantage to integrated video on the motherboard if you plan to add a pcie card anyway?

(I'm expecting some rofl at my expense)

My thinking is that I intend to purchase a discreet graphics card, I can skip the integrated grahics on both the mother board and the cpu. My intent is to get an i5 Haswell and probably a Radeon HD 7770. My follow up question is:

What is a good motherboard with at least 2 6gb sata ports and at least 2 usb 3 (on back panel) and 4 usb2 (also on back panel) and at least 2 pcie16 cards at least one x16. in case i want to add a second card at some point (I probably won't do this as I am just a casual gamer -- probably obvious by my card choice) How much do i save by ditching the video on the motherboard? Many $100 boards have it, so are they basically giving it away?
