So purchased and installed the Intel 540 series 240GB SSD last week. Installed, ran Intel toolbox and updated firmware, rebooted and see drive in Bios and hardware manager. Yet in My Computer the drive does not exist.

-I made all empty drives visible in settings, rechecked settings and bios settings ensuring the Sata drivers were not in IDE mode and rechecked- same issue drive not found.

-Updated drivers for motherboard and Intel chip set for on board controller- same issue drive not there.

-After hours of searching the internet there seems to be a lot of people having this issue! Yet I have found no solution for said issue.

Can anyone help?
I feel this is a lost cause this is the only SD brand that gave me an issue!Samsung, OCZ, Kingston all worked fine!! Went with a name brand like Intel and JUNK!!

Running: Win 7 64bit, Asrock Z97 mobo Intel i7 4790k 16g ram. Far as I can tell all drivers are working correctly

Thanks for any info! I also installed in my back up system (also win 7 64bit) and same- seen in bios and hardware manager but not in my computer. Drive is not accessible!!!

Because I am not able to do any of those things at all. The drive letter in bios is F: but in My computer nothing, I can not format a drive that is not seen. Can I? No partition since I had no chance or opportunity to format said drive. All other drives I have installed is first seen by windows then I have an option on partition and format. Am I mistaken? explain if I am please. I am fed up with this device. Edit: Drive not seen in manag. by running diskmgmt.msc screen forgot to mention

So I physically removed the driver to reinspect for damage/poor connections. All seemed okay, while in there I swapped the sata cable and the port on the motherboard that the driver was plugged into (just to make sure). Reconnected all cables ensuring a good fit. Started system rechecked bios, drive there, started windows and reran diskmgmt.msc drive not there?!?!
-So confused. Re-downloaded and installed firmware from intel toolbox reinstalled rechecked. DRIVE IS NOW THERE clicked on drive and attempted to make a simple volume, hit the format button and got an error. "can not quick format this drive, drive unavailable".
-Rebooted retried- same error. Sending this drive back its gotta be something internal for all these weird errors and unable to format... Not going to try intel again sticking with Samsung for now I have 2 Evo's and 1 pro never an issue. Luck of the draw I guess and thanks for trying to help Festerovic

Yes drive was seen in Device Manager an intel chip set on ata port 5(moved to port 7) thats all it said I could not format or access anything from there either. read as intel chip set and can see properties and said "this devices is working".

Did the SSD actually show up in the Disks section of Device Manager though? Also did you try port 0 or port 1 of the Sata connections? 5+ are usually going to be add in onboard, typically Marvel, so there may be incompatibilities if that was the case.
