Howdy all,

Im building my first computer at the moment. Im second guessing everything im doing because I want the computer I build to be good enough for the things I want, but at the cheapest price possible.

My problems lies in choosing a CPU. I cannot choose between the 6500 and the 6600/K. Im not interested in OCing. Im not there yet. I think the most demanding game ill be running is GTA V.

Im more inclined to go the 6500 from what ive read so far. Is the price difference (more then $100 from what I can find (Australian)) worth it?

Thanks guys

If you want a cheap PC and don't OC, then my advise is to get the 6500, plus even to overclock 6600k you'll need a OC ready MOBO, which are not cheap. So just buying 6600k is a waste.
If you're not going to overclock, then there is no point in getting the 6600k. Aside from overclocking, the only difference between the two is that the 6600k gets an extra 300MHz on its base and turbo clocks, which won't make a huge difference. The 6600k also doesn't come with a stock cooler, so if you don't have a CPU cooler lying around that will fit on the LGA 1151 socket, that's an extra expense.

Yes, but you have to remember, he said he is not interested in overclock, for now, keywords, for now. Edit: that actually isn't what he said, he said I'm not there yet. But whatever XD

True, but the OP said there is apparently a $100 price difference between the two in his region, which makes the 6600k much, much harder to justify, he'd be better off spending that $100 on an SSD or a better GPU rather than 9% clockspeed boost on the CPU plus the option to overclock if he gets a Z170 motherboard.
