Hey so I was about to build a PC with roughly $1200... I have decided to buy
Gigabyte GeForce gtx 1080 G1
16GB of ddr4 3200mhz

But I am confused over the i7 8700K and i7 9700K...(there is no way I am buying a 9900k).. How well does the Z370 motherboard on latest bios support the 9th gen...

Is the i7 9700K hotter than 8700K??

Again... Plz... My main question is how well do the Z370 mobo support 9th gen??

Solution
This is going to depend on which Z370 board you pick. Lower end Z370 boards with weak VRMs probably will not do well with a power hungry 9700k, or even an 8700k if you start overclocking it heavily. Higher end boards with stronger VRMs should run a 9700k with little trouble assuming they have an updated BIOS. Do note that you usually need an 8th gen CPU to update the BIOS on a Z370 board, so that is a possible complication going that route if you don't already own that board and CPU.

Bottom line is if you are doing a completely new build and want a 9700k, you're better off getting a Z390 board, you get guaranteed compatibility out of the box and the midrange boards should have better VRMs than their Z370 equivalents. I would still...

Solution
z370 boards run 9th gen cpus just fine but need an 8th gen cpu to update the bios. You'll have no video putting in a 9th gen before update.

9700k runs cooler but with a decent cooler and case air flow an 8700k will run happy too.

Between them, performance is pretty much the same. Id favour going 8700k imo because of Hyperthreading.

I agree with above regarding vrms. It could be an issue. Higher end boards would have better and most if not all itx boards designed for tighter enclosures will have better vrm mosfets.

Imo, z390 will run an 8700k and probably best going a z390.
