Well after doing some more checking, I was incorrect. The ram in my PC is a set of teamgroup and is running in dual channel, verified by cpu z. I guess what was throwing me is in the bios this ram didn't have an xmp profile available. Oh well whatever. It's happy. So I'll probably toss in an i7 and call the pc good for a while.

I'll think some more on what to upgrade my wife's system to. I'm thinking a pink case of some kind.

Lian Li has the LanCool case in pink, 205 or something like that. I did a build in a black one and it is a really decent case for the money. I got the one with the ARGB fans and pretty sure it was ~$70. I was going to do pink but the wife asked me not to unless I could find purple. So black it was.

Hm. She does like purple. May have to give this a look.

Maybe toss in a cheap rx 550 gpu or a gtx 1050 or 1050ti should be plenty.
Something like this for the wife + getting a 14600k/f or 14700k/f for your computer would be perfect IMO.

A desktop pc does not need discrete graphics.
The integrated graphics on, say, a i3-13100 is plenty good enough to run a 4k monitor and play HD movies.
For small, look for an ITX motherboard and case.

It does if he reuses his 12600kf for his wife's PC.

Yeah I’m also tinkering with the idea depending on funds, grabbing a ryzen 7600x or 7700x bundle from Microcenter and rebuilding my system, then grab an rx 560 or something used to place in my current board for her. For power supply, I’ll look. Even one of Microcenter’s PowerSpec units should be fine. For my pc I’d use my Corsair rm850x. But she’s not gaming and pushing the system hard. About the most with her system does is running a silhouette vinyl cutter. Similar to like a cricket but better imo. Office work essentially.

If I don’t have as many funds I’ll likely snag either a 14600 or 14700, or maybe even a 13700 for my current box, and possibly resell the 12600kf just because I can pick up a used b450 board for just north of 50 bucks, I’ve seen ryzen 4500g apus used for 70. So that would fix the gpu issue as well. On the Intel side I’m spending close to 100 bucks for only a board unless I go to aliexpress which I think is a no go. But even a 4500g compared to the i7 3770 she uses now should be a good update.

Dont sleep on the 5500 GT or 5600 GT either.

Keeping to one thread. Things may shift. I think I’ve made the decision that I’d just like to rebuild my box, still the 12600kf and maybe pick up a cheap i5 12400.

This won’t happen until after a day or two after Christmas.

My source will be Microcenter.

They have a couple of options.

My baseline would be this combo. Though for 30 bucks I’d step up to the 9700x I think.

Here’s where it gets interesting. For a few dollars more they have the 7600x3d with a board and 32gb ram starting at $450 I believe.

If I want to go crazy that do have a 7800x3d bundle for $599. While I know the x3d CPUs are great gaming CPUs, almost $200 more worth it?

If you were me what would you go with? I and a bit between the 9700x combo and the 7600x3d combo.

Keep in mind this system usage is to browse the web and play games. Thoughts?

If i remember the 7600X3D combo is 399.99 or 449.99 with a motherboard upgrade. I would go with the 7600X3D. Its a really fast little gaming chip. It seems they have increased the combo for the 7600X3D to 450 but with the better motherboard. I think maybe they ran out of the cheaper motherboard for the 400 dollar combo.

Right now the 400 dollar combo is the 7700x and a board. The 7600x3d does look impressive for what it is. I may pick up that combo and a new case possibly then use the 7600x3d as a holdover and maybe in a couple of years get the 10800x3d lol.

I mean the 7800x3d is tempting but 600 is a lot of coin for last year’s king. If it were the 9800x3d that might be worth it. But I think you confirmed what I started thinking. Some of the benchmarks I saw showed the 7600x3d beating or equaling the i9 14900 in some cases.

I know the temptation was to go with a newer i7 and be done, but then I started thinking of if I went for a newer used i7, yes they’ve supposedly fixed things but who knows if I get a working cpu that doesn’t blow in 6 months. And if I were to go for a new cpu, I’m at least 310 for a 14700. Then if I’m buying another kit of ram for repurposing part of my current setup, for 32gb I’m basically around 60 bucks. But between those 2 I’m thinking I’m within a few dollars of a combo deal, so I might as well just go that route.

My buddy is still fine with all games on the 5600X3D he got, however, he has not tried some of the more thread heavy games, not that I believe it cannot perform at 120+ FPS or better.

I’ve seen good things on the 5600x3d and on the 7600x3d. So for the money I’m leaning towards the 7600x3d. I’ll probably keep it until the new generation of x3d CPUs arrive after the 9000 series, or unless they just have some kind of fire sale on a 9800x3d that I just can’t pass on.

Ok so the question now.

They don’t have the cheaper board for the 7600x3d bundle. Here’s the question.

Do I go with bundle 1

https://www.microcenter.com/product...ies-32gb-ddr5-6000-kit,-computer-build-bundle

Or bundle 2

https://www.microcenter.com/product...ies-32gb-ddr5-6000-kit,-computer-build-bundle

I think when I looked at the cart with tax etc the 7600x3d bundle was 559.65

The 7700x bundle was 438 and change. Thoughts? The 7700x obviously has 2 more cores but the 7600x3d has vcache.

1440p resolution 180hz screen.

Decided to go with this instead. Except getting Corsair rgb memory for an extra 10. For cooling I’ll use my Thermalright peerlesss assassin.

I like the idea of the 7600x3d but the benchmarks I was seeing the 9700x appears close and it will be paired with a 6800xt. It will come out to about 482 vs 559. So a nice savings.

Unless I decide to go new case it will go into this case that I already have.

That 9700x deal is definitely better than the 500 dollar 7600X3D combo.
