You have a very optimistic attitude if you think that is going to ever happen without getting a GM style bailout. They should not have forced Pat out, and let him complete his vision. Instead, they could only think about short term $$$.
That would've been best for Intel. But, if the board didn't oust him, I think they'd have faced a shareholder revolt. Were the shareholders right? Not in my opinion, but that's where we're at.

If you think that they need a bailout now how in the world do you think that they wouldn't need one if they had spend even more money??????
Right I'm sure they can just snap their fingers and start things back up after dumping the institutional knowledge that got them this far.
Ohhh, you think they secure erased all the files and threw out any and all IP and anything else they developed for this?!

No, but they got rid of the team and probably much of the infrastructure. That stuff took a long time to build. They won't be able to re-hire the same developers and infrastructure is very susceptible to bit-rot, if it's not being used. So it would take a long time to rebuild the team, supporting infrastructure, and processes.

It's hard for me to see how their fortunes would change so much that they'd bring it back. At least, any time in the foreseeable future.

For instance, AMD once had a Linux development lab that they closed. It took them about a decade to return to a point where they could offer a similar degree of Linux support to what they had back then.
