I purchased a CPU off of E-Bay that was listed as a QX6700 socket 775 CPU. What I got was a CPU that has "Intel Confidential" stamped on it and the following info:

QQMM ES A4
HH80562PH0678M
L625A65W

How do I find out what type of CPU it is?

What you have is a ES (engineering sample) thats normally only given out to test sites. Normally it will be a bit better than retail and you might want to contact Intel.

The last guy who got one was trying to get the same CPU you were trying to get but got a ES one and when he contacted Intel ended up getting a QX6850 if I remember correctly which was not even out for public yet. So contact Intel and see what they say.

That sounds like an engineering sample. If so,the multiplier is probably unlocked and you'll be able to overclock the heck out of it.INTEL may give you a decent CPU in return for it,but think of the clock rates you should be able to get out of it.Goodluck.

I have a similar issue, I just bought a tower off a guy that was hurting for cash and I got it for a good deal I think $500, It is listed as a Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 Kentsfield @ 2.93Ghz Socket 775 with CPUZ and under Specification it is listed as Q6800 ES, When I looked on the CPU it say's Intel Confidential QXWX ES ...And there is some other numbers on the processor, It is hard to make out. I myself was told that this was a good CPU and that it is very exspensive to buy. I am not sure if it is a good CPU and whether to sell it and grab something else or to just keep it. As for the rest of the PC I will list below what it came with, and if anyone could let me know if you think I paid a fair price or to much for it. The specs below are what I bought it with a week ago. And the fellow I got it off told me he bought this all brand new about 8 months ago and he paid a lot for it.
