Hi Everyone,

This is my first experience of building a PC.
I am considering the i3 2120 (onboard Intel HD Graphics 2000).
My work mainly involves editing 16 megapixel image files and videos shot at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Can't afford the i5 and an expensive motherboard that it will need.

Will this processor be the right choice for this kind of work?
I don't have to multitask or play games. Do I really need 4 cores?

Please also suggest a budget motherboard that will not bottleneck the i3 2120.

I came across these (I can afford these) :
ASUS P8H61-M LX (Price: INR 3094)
Max 16 GB-2 slots, Integrated Graphic Card.

Intel DH61SA (Price: INR 3100)
Max 8 GB-2 slots, Integrated HD Graphics.

Please let me know what you guys think of these, keeping in mind my requirement.
Also if you could please suggest a better board in the same price range.

I can't afford a GPU now. Hence going for the i3 2120 which has HD Graphics 2000. Will it serve my purpose? I will buy a GPU later.

Many Thanks!

ok i admit i was, i'm sorry :) Since u've chosen to respond in a respectable manner, i too shall put my point of view forward in a decent way. lets have a gentlemanly talk:)

Well, the main reason of my argument behind a module being 2 weak cores is this,

#1 It has 2 integer cores.
#2 Even though the FPU is shared, most of the times it's actually used as 2 separate 128bit FPU's, exception being instructions like AVX. IIRC they can execute 2 128bit floating point calculations simultaneously, just like 2 separate phenom cores :)
#3 L2 cache is just super-fast on die memory. A core can function correctly, with full functionality even without it, but it will be $hit slow:) If u go to analyze it, even Core2Duo chips like the Wolfdale had a common shared L2 cache between 2 cores. :)

Only thing is that the the front end is shared...but then is it justified to treat a single module as a single core inspite of the above points?
I guess this discussion had taken place already a little while ago, but i don't remember where......perhaps it in the BD thread.....

I do, and i understand it MUCH better than u, so pls spare me ur crap.thank u :kaola:

yea....perfectly my a$$!! The guy has taken a biased, half educated approach to his review.
Agreed that when it comes to all round performance, the Core i3 can put some serious dents in the FX 4100's résumé, but the whole review was about some SQL performance, NOT image and video processing performance, which is what rizwanmithawa wants.
The glass is 70% full....i see it as an almost full glass, while ur trying to prove that the glass is empty!!!

As i've already stated, i don't bother to support either AMD or Intel. If u look at my initial post, u'll see that i've mentioned both the i3 and FX chips. As for ur fanboy accusation, pls note that i myself currently run an INTEL E8400. I just buy whatever seems worth my money.
If i had to build a fresh rig today, i wud buy a core i3 at the $120 range, an FX 6200 in the $150 range, or a Core i5 in the $180+ range....coz that's what i feel are good chips at those price points.

Gosh!! Now that's seriously lame !!!

@rizwanmithaw dude i really apologize for messing up ur thread here with off topic arguments. :)

Btw incase ur buying from flipkart, beware that they only have a 30 day warranty policy....if something goes bad after that, u'll have a really hard time claiming warranty directly. Here in India, the after sales customer service is horribly pathetic 🙁 Insome cases, those people are even abusive!!
Unless u live in one of the major cities like Mumbai, i think it wud be better for u to buy from a local computer shop even if its a few hundred rupees costlier....they'll deal with the warranty claiming headache for u :)

I live in Mumbai and I will buy from the local market. They are cheaper than flipkart but they don't deal with the warranty.

Oh k then:) All d best:)
Here down in Mangalore the local shops are costlier.....but if something goes bad, all u gotta do is return the device along with the purchase receipt and the Original packaging box, and they'll deal with it. If u don't have the box , they won't accept the device, so i recommend u keep ur card's packaging safely:)
