My Sony Vaio PCG-71312M has been running really sluggish for several months now and making really loud fan noises even when idle.

I thought it is time to try and determine the problem.

First step was to open up the laptop and check for a dust build up. Very clean inside very negligble dust. Gave the fan a blast of compressed air to be sure.

I downloaded several free hardware monitoring programs such as Speccy, Speedfan and HWInfo and all are showing consistent information that the CPU and Motherboard are very hot.

With only Google Chrome open it is fluctuating between 73c and 79c which I believe is way too hot?

I would be grateful for any suggestions as to what steps to take next?

Thanks

Paul

Change the thermal paste with Noctua NT-H1!

Where can I buy this and is it easy to do myself? Installing a hard drive is the most advanced hardware job I have done on a PC. Note this is a laptop which I assume is more tricky?

You can buy it from here: http://

It's very easy to apply thermal paste.. Just watch a vid online (there might even be one for your laptop model)

No probs, my friend used this paste on his laptop and it lowered his GPU temp by 40C.. I am positive that it's most likely going to fix the overheating issues you're having with your CPU.

Cheers for the help - much appreciated. I will report back in a few days once the paste has arrived and I have applied it.

You're welcome! I'd be happy to know the results! : )
