Intel Core i3 550 with 2x4GB DDR3 1333 RAM

Good day,

I was wondering if adding another stick of 4gb ddr3 1333 to my computer would improve gaming and multitasking. Currently im running on a single stick of 4gb ddr3 1333. Will it improve the performance in gaming?

CPU: Intel Core i3 550
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 1GB OC Ed
MOBO: Asus P7H55-M LX
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 4GB DDR3 1333

Oh, almost forgot,

If I upgrade my CPU and MOBO in the future, will my ram still be supported?

Gaming will improve with 8GB RAM considering the fact that new games use more RAM , so yes it will improve.

Depends on the game. Come games are cpu intensive, some are gpu intensive. You will see some improvement but cpu and gpu supersede the ram.

Multitasking will also be hell lot better with 8GB RAM

More ram means less HDD thrashing for virtual memory. Not to mention the fact you will be in proper dual channel mode then too. Yes, the ram should be reusable as well. I would suggest, if budget is kinda low, to try and get an i5 750/760 cheap off of Ebay, to hold you over till you are ready for a full blown upgrade. That would help quite a bit as well. The i3 you have lacks hyperthreading, and is not a great multitasker compared to second gen and better i3's.

What nonsense. His system will not run games on ultra. 8gb is usually recommended for ultra settings. Even crysis 3 and metro last light only requires 4gb on recommended and 2gb on min. So unless you are upgrading your cpu and gpu to play on high settings, you will barely be seeing any improvement in games.

So unless you are upgrading your cpu and gpu to play on high settings, you will barely be seeing any improvement in games.

Gaming can be improved though if there is a lot of Windows going to the pagefile for memory going on. It would smooth out the gameplay.

BF4 has 8GB RAM as recommended. Also with 2×4GB RAM means Dual-channel mode which again means better performance

I'm only buying another stick because the ram prices keeps going up

and besides, after a few months, I'll be upgrading to an i7 and soon enough, a better GPU

If you are going to upgrade your CPU then you should consider getting 2×4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9(or lower) RAM instead

There will be significant performance benefit between 1333Mhz and 1600Mhz RAM especially in memory-intensive tasks.Beyond 1600Mhz benefits start to diminish rapidly.

You will see some improvement but not much. The problem is going to be when you upgrade you mobo and your newly bought ram might not be supported.

Ok don't take this personally but that's non-sense.

As long as the new Motherboard and CPU supports DDR3 RAM there won't be any compatibility issue with DDR3 1600 Mhz 1.5V RAM.

Also Intel's 4th gen CPU support only 1600 and 1333Mhz RAM officially

No, the difference is minimal. You should be worried about if your new ram will be supported when you upgrade your mobo.
