Intel Core i5-4570 need heatsink/cooler?

I am building with an Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor. This CPU does not include a heat sink. Does this indicate there is no need for a heat sink...or I should purchase an after market product. If an after market product is called for please advise recommended type.

If you are planning to do a bit of over clocking then you are looking at a different story with lots of options. DO NOT TURN THIS ON without some sort of heatsink and fan on top .. you will burn out your CPU.

I do not plan on OC. I was looking at a Corsair H50, but I think this may be overkill. Suggestions on a heat sink or cooler???

H50 will be fine and they are nice closed loop system.. The H80 is a little better. When it comes to cooling it is nice to have a little extra in the tank as a back up if lets say one of your fans starts dying and you aren't aware of it or it dies while you are away and the computer is on. Price wise tho, H50 should do what you want.

Just make sure you follow the correct procedures of cleaning the old thermal paste off and apply new.

This is a new build....I was also considering the Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler...any thoughts? If it was yours which would be your choice?

If you have the room, get the h100i That is what i use and it dropped my temps by 15C easily.

Thanks, the case I am using is the Fractal Design Define R4 so I think it should fit...no alarms on the PCPartPicker. Do you do Mother Boards? Confusion reigns!!

Do i do motherboards?

It is 120 x 275 x 27mm in size.

So that means you would need at least 28mm from the top of your motherboard to the top of the case if you are putting the fans on the outside of the case. If you are putting them inside you would need 27+25 mm above your motherboard.

If you don't have that type of room, then you may have to go with an h50 or h80. Get the tape measure!

Any suggestions on MB's. It appears all the reviews state either DOA, very flimsy. bad design or another malady. The MB is the last compontent.

What are you planing to use it for? A simple motherboard would be the Asus z97-a.. It doesn't have wifi but it can support higher frequency memory. If you are wanting gaming, Asus z97 Hero VII.

You can just get a 212 evo, as you will not be overclocking. Get the cheapest you can.

The Corsair H100i will fit the Fractal define 4 according to Pcpartpicker.

Why would you get a water cooler for a locked cpu? It can give you more problems than the ones that solves, if you're getting a new 4570 without a cooler (that its very unlikely) just get a 212 evo.

No, he's not looking for watercooling, according to the first post. He's just looking for something that will make sure that his CPU works...

I think watercooling is superior than air cooling. If he can afford it, I will suggest it. he asked more about it with the h100I and i offered my suggestion. He doesn't have to take it.

Personally I prefer air cooling, and I insist that, given that it's a locked processor (and Intel, so it runs cool by itself), he would be ok with a cheap air cooler, and it would probably be quieter as well 🙂

Wow...thanks for all the responses. I am building this system for general computing, web surfing, video/movie watching (wifi to main TV?) and limited gaming. I wish quality products, (hence the MB angst) as I am on the computer a LOT. The i5-4570 from New Egg does not come with a heat sink, so I thought an after market cooler was expected. I shall not be OC (famous last words). Mother Board and storage are up in the air, and I am On budget...any thoughts on these components...including the necessity of a cooling system with these components would be HIGHLY appreciated. The
Intel Core i5-4590 BX80646I54590 COMES with a Heatsink and fan for the same price and is listed as an update to the 4570. Would this CPU solve my problem???

What type of fan does it come with? The stock fan that comes with the chip? If so, you may run into the same issue you are having.

In the spec for the 4590 on New Egg it is listed as: Heatsink and fan included. So I appears to be a stock item.

Yes, that would solve it. It comes with the intel stock heatsink, which is enough for intel chips when not overclocked, and would save you $30 🙂

Get the 4590 and use the stock cooler, and instead of getting a fancy water cooler, get a better gpu, you should be able to get a r9 280, maybe a 280x with the saved money.
