I just recently upgraded my cpu from an anniversary pentium to an i5 4690k. I started up the Planetside 2, and at empty areas, was getting 60 fps on max, but in battles it would drop to about 20 if lucky. The new Fps results with the i5 seem no different from the pentium, as i was getting similar fps w/ old processor. I know that my setup isn't top of the line, but it seems to be underperforming. Please help!

My setup:
intel i5 4690k
Gigabyte GTX 960
AsRock H97m anniversary edition
8 gigs of ddr3 ram
250 gb ssd
1 tb hdd

Lower or disable your shadows and overclock that chip.
I get pretty stable 40+ fps with an i5-3570K @ 4.3 GHz even in big battles.
The game can clearly use the 4 cores of the i5, I see over 90% quite regularly.
The game is clearly CPU limited in bigger fights, and Im not sure how well it scales beyond 4 cores/threads.
Honestly when the battles ramp up i dont think there is anything you can do. The game performs like a heavily populated RTS when the battles get crazy. I too have a 4690k and i just stopped playing after an hour because the lag was so bad, i could be wrong but who knows.

I had the same problem a while back, different game tho.
Turned out I needed to change the thermal paste and buy a proper cpu cooler.
This helped me and now everything is running smoothly
