Intel Core i5 Mobile CPUs: Which one is better? 4300Y vs 5Y71?

Core M isn't a Core i5 btw.

The Core I3, i5, and I7 run circles around ALL the Core M CPUs. Core M is designed for ultra small form factors, and because of it's small TDP of 5 watts, it won't do much. Where as the i3, i5 and i7 have a TDP of at least 17W, allowing them to be way faster than Core M.

Thanks. That must be why when I do search results I don't get what I was looking for x.e...

What? No, this is completely wrong. First off, core i3, core i5, core i7, and core m are all just brand names. Second, the OP asked how a core M CPU outperforms a particular core i5 CPU (which it does) so obviously "the core i3, i5, and i7 run circles around ALL the core M CPUs" is wrong, or we wouldn't have this question to begin with.

Here are some benchmarks to demonstrate, you can see the same thing on passmark, or wherever you want to look:

The core M are not the fastest CPUs around sure, but they are more then capable of beating out many Core i3, i5, and even i7 chips (the dual core ones anyway).

Thanks.

In theory core m cpu would be faster, because it has higher turbo boost reaching 2.9ghz over 2.5 of the core i5.But this is in absolute theory. There are many things that play role in that, for an example the thermal configuration choosen by the laptop manifacture can play a significant role in that.Turbo boost works in specific situations as low temps and single core usage. So base clock in my opinion is more important than turbo boost in any laptop cpu.
