I'm getting ready to buy a processor for my PC gaming build today. Based on my research and the parts that I've bought so far, I'm thinking that the Intel Core i7 6700k would make a great gaming CPU. My local computer store currently has it priced far cheaper than what it's going for online. Like $60.00 USD cheaper.

But before I buy it, I would like to hear what everyone else has to say about the Intel Core i7 6700k as a gaming CPU?

This CPU will be used with an MSI H110M Gaming motherboard and a MSI GTX 1070 Gaming Z 8GB video card.

The CPU specs that I'm considering buying are as follows:

Item #: BX80662I76700K

Operating Frequency: 4.0 GHz

Quad Core

pls understand, to buy i7 6700k whidout a z170 board is plain usless and even harmfull for your cpu since the cheap board you have will have voltage set in [auto] and you wont be able to change it, having in auto the voltage can reach +1.4v in stock, this means alot more heat and alot less life for ur cpu. You will be playing games at over 80º even with water cooler in summer this heating ur GPU to +80 as well, and ull cry alot. The new i7s are ment to be used with the z170 or z270 to have their proper voltages set.

2 things you never go cheap on is the Power supply and motherboard. The K procesors are made to be optimized with their respective OC chipsets, like z170

Also better get a 500gb SSD, a normal HDD will bottleneck hard the cpu...
You're making a big mistake buying the K suffixed processor on an H110 board. if you must go for the i7-6700K, you should pair the processor with a Z170 board and a ram kit that has a frequency of 3200MHz(maximum). if you stray from any other parts then it's a waste of potential. On the question about the i7-6700K as a great gaming CPU, that is the cream f the crop when it comes to mainstream processors so obviously it'll be killer in all aspects of gaming.

If you can't move out of the H110, then stick with a B150 chipset with an i7-6700(non k suffix) with DDR4-2133/2400MHz rams whichever is cheaper).

Mind sharing the rest of your system's specs to save you from more potential issues...? List them as:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
Monitor:

Lastly, we're going to need a budget and where you're buying from+your location.

yep plain usless to buy a 6700k whidout a z170 board, also make shure ur PSU is at least a "80 plus" 650w and a good PSU not some cheap 40$ crap, make shure its 12rail is at least 600w, cheap 650w psu only have 400w on its 12rail and is where you will need +600w on. A decent PSU is corsair 650w 80 plus for example.

I wasn't really planning on overclocking anytime soon. I just wanted to put the PC together, install Windows 10 and start gaming with an overall better experience in terms of frames per second, smother gameplay, and the most important, an instant noticeable improvement in on screen graphics over my Sony PlayStation 4 and my Microsoft Xbox One S, which is the goal of my project. I wanted my budget to be no more than $1000.00 USD, but I can honestly say that I will be going over budget. But I don't want to spend anymore money than I have to at this point moving forward.

I went ahead and purchased the Intel Core i7 6700k yesterday, the deal was to good to pass up. While I would prefer to just use the motherboard that I currently have for the time being, as I mentioned above that I'm not interested in overclocking at present date, maybe down the road once I've been gaming on a PC for awhile and are more knowledgeable, I won't rule out buying another motherboard if it means an instant out of the box improvement over the H110M without overclocking. Can you tell me what improvements that I will gain from going with a Z170 motherboard, over my H110M outside of overclocking?

To answer your question about specs, here's what I have so far:

MSI H110M Gaming Motherboard

MSI GTX 1070 Gaming Z

Intel Core i7 6700k

DIYPC Shadow White case - I will be upgrading all fan on the case. 5 fans are 120mm, 1 fan will be 140mm.

Here's what I'm planning on getting:

2TB hard drive

16GB of ram

I haven't decided on anything else.
