The EU does not care what you think about the whole matter.
Point is: USA companies complain in the EU about....USA companies.
And unlike the USA, the EU is not a slave of its corporate establishment.
Like it or not.... the EU does as it pleases.

So, why doesn't some retailer specialize on only AMD computer builds? They could buy AMD CPUs in volume and get good prices, no? They wouldn't have to care about Intel's marketing practices at all.

Answer that question, and you will see why the EU attack on Intel is BS and an attempt to bolster a losing company.

Lol, you can tell the AMD fanboys have hit this thread, and I havent read a single comment. I'm so sick of the EU, and their bullying tactics against American companies.

It's seriously time for american companies to form together in a union of their own to help combat the actions of the EU.

So what, the EU is going to start fining companies for offering discounts to other companies for buying exclusive? Yeah right. I'm not an expert on European law, but if that seriously makes it to the EU courts and the EU wins, then the EU law is obviously made to help the EU magistrates.

We don't know if the EU treats EU companies like this, because it isn't publicized here, because it isn't important to us. But we talk the same way in the states about things like Toyota vs GM, as an example.

I would have less of an issue with this if the EU wasn't a loose collection of trading partners, and instead was a single country that could be dealt with, because it is about as difficult to deal with right now as the US was during the Articles of Confederation pre-constitution...

Wow, some of you guys really have no clue what your talking about. AMD has started to get their business in order and the Foundry company is getting started up. AMD is taking back market share as we speak but no one mentions this.

When AMD is back on top (oh yes they were once and will be again in the future) you guys that want an Intel monopoly will be squirming. Why would you not want to support competition? Without cometition Intel has free range of pricing milking us consumers.

I think Coke and Pepsi can do it because they don't have any real leverage. They are not monopolies. If I offer only Coke, I don't get my clock cleaned because of it, same for Pepsi. There is a tremendous amount of competition in the beverage market. There are other chips and computers out there, but I think everyone agrees that desktop computers are their own market, and Intel is king.

Imagine you are a computer shop and you want to offer AMD and Intel builds. Intel (who makes up 80% of your CPU sales) says.... nah, if you wan to keep getting the same price on our CPU's you have to stop selling AMD. I'm stuck... do I loose 80% or 20% of my business? (20% either being because of lost Intel discount, or all AMD sales.)

Intel never did this. They offered discounts for manufactures who stayed exclusive, not penalties for those who didnt.

!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! fffffffffffffff same sin. If I want to grow my business by 20% by also offering AMD to customers who are asking for it I can't. I end up loosing 20% discount on my Intel sales. It's still anti-competitive leveraging of a monopoly. MS has the same issues when shops want to offer Linux.

Hardly. For the manufacturers who this is being accused of, their average customer base isnt going to give a damn which type of processor they have, as long as they get a good price/perfomance ratio, and it works well. The same is true in PC shops, aside from the fact that pc shops arent going to be making tray deals with intel.

Your idea would totally hold up if the buisness model worked that way, but it doesnt.

I disagree. There are many businesses that buy Dell and require Intel processors as part of their spec. Dell can't sell good price/performance ratio AMD's to their smaller customers asking for a better price, because they can't afford to loose their big customers (to shops who signed on with the Intel exclusive thing) because of increased Intel prices. I think it's pretty easy to see actually.

Intel surely blackmailed distributors with cutting their bonuses, if also offering AMD, until a few yers ago.
A large multinational intel distributor in EMEA had to split it's business in two, the main one intel only, the other AMD only. After the scandal erupted, AMD complaining about intel's business practices, the AMD only firm disappeared, AMD processors being available from the main one, together with intel products. That's proof enough.

Let's see if the EU can stop the big bad hog this time 😛

This ain't new actually, for those that think AMD is the first one to suffer this from Intel. Besides, remember Intel can get all AMDs tech without paying a dime, but not the other way around.

Esop!
