ARM does not manufacture CPUs. They sell licences to designs. Intel could very well License an ARM design and fabricate it themselves.
 
There is nothing in the original EE Times article to suggest that Apple is moving away from its own ARM-based SOC designs. As far as this story is concerned, Intel is merely a life support system for a foundry. Apple gives them the design, Intel makes it, that's as far as it goes.

This isn't about x86 chips in Apple mobile products. Apple knows better.
 
it's a good time for apple... it uses both amd and intel products both of which have great looking upcoming releases in mobile computing
