For the past 3 weeks my computer refuses to turn on unless unplugged for 5-10 seconds and then it turns on just fine. I also use Lubuntu 10.04 on it which always crashes with a kernel panic when it tries to shut down and sometimes I can't power it off with the power button, although sometimes times it will let me. I checked the ram and I even changed the power supply yesterday and same thing with the last one. Most times (although not every time) when I go to bios and restart by saving changes sometimes I get a black screen right when it restarts again and the entire thing crashes and power button doesn't work. I also checked all the capacitors and none are in any bad shape.
About a month ago I had it running maybe 30 minutes and decided to do benchmark testing to see how well the hardware would do, and while it was doing that it suddenly crashed and it wouldn't do anything and I think I had to unplug it to turn it off. What I didn't realize at the time that the CPU fan I guess wasn't working and since then this problem happens. Even if that is true, can a CPU that's failing require the power supply to be unplugged or switched off for a certain amount of time to turn back on?
I also did this with the ram removed and same thing, I get 1 power button boot per unplugging. I usually don't ask questions but this one baffles me.
