Single core 1Ghz Atom vs Quad core 2Ghz Snapdragon?

Not sure how they will actually compare in practice since the number of cores is limited by die size and clock speed by power usage. But which one will the kid down the street buy based on those specs at face value?

i wonder what happens when nanometer become obsolete and they start making picometer cpu's... that should be a race to be the first

Anonymous: The high-k gate is also part of the new revolution. Transistor redesign not only holds the promise of lower power usage, these future processors will perform much better than anything today.

Saying that a 32 nm sandy bridge is similar in performance to a q6600 at 65 nm is just factually not true :). The new ivy bridge at 22 nm will put others to shame in terms of energy efficiency, performance, and overclockability.

Why doesn't Intel skip 32nm lithography on the Atom for 2012, and go straight to 22nm as Ivy Bridge will be? Why is Atom 1 step behind Ivy Bridge even though the Atom die is simpler than Ivy bridge?

There has not been any good reason to upgrade Atom, untill resently. Now when AMD and Arms are offering good value in low end chips, Intel is "forced" to up the ante...
Pushing out 32 nm Atom next year would not be enough. It is cheaper to move straight to 22 nm.
As I said, we need competition...
