I have an Intel DP35DPM desktop board with 4 Western Digital WD5000AAKS SATA-II drives on ports 0-3 in SATA mode (not AHCP), presented to Vista SP 1 as a 920 GB RAID-10 volume (C:, OS/data) and a 23 GB RAID-0 volume (D:, swap/temp).
I have run this system with no problems from April '08 until about June or July. Every few times I would cold boot, the drive on port 3 would disappear. Usually I could power down or hit restart while in POST (after RAID init) and the drive would show up again. When this stopped fixing things, I moved port 3 to port 5 (e-SATA) and tried a new cable. Problem solved for about another 2 weeks and then the drive disappeared and never came back. So I RMA'd the drive and got a new one from WD, plugged it back into port 3, and voila, everything was stable from June or July until this week.
So here it goes again, the replacement drive on port 3 disappeared, before I go through tearing this system down and moving cables/ports, etc., does anyone have a suggestion on what's going on here?
I believe my power supply is 400W+, I'll check when I pull everything apart (again).
Here is my system report from the matrix console:
