Intel DP45SG motherboard and nvidia geforce gtx 460

Hello

Recently i owned a desktop computer with the Intel DP45SG motherboard and a geforce 9800gt, but my video card burned, so i am looking for new one. I am interested in buying the nvidia geforce gtx 460 but i dont know if it is compatible with the motherboard. Can u guys tell me if it is and what should i look to know the compatibility between motherboards and video cards?

The GTX460 is fully compatible with your motherboard! All you need is the correct slot on the motherboard for the card that is PCIexpress x16.

1) Your board is compatible with the GTX 460 with no issues

2) When you are looking at a motherboard compatibility, you want to look for the following:
■At least one PCIe x16 - You want 2.x or higher but you can still manage at 1.0.
■How many PCIe x16 slots you need? - Do you want to run multiple GPU's in your system or not?
■Crossfire or SLI support? - Does the motherboard support multiple cards from either AMD/ATI, Nvidia or both.
■What speeds do the PCIe slots run at? Single: x16, x8 or x4; Multiple: x16,x16 , x8,x8 , x16,x4 , ... etc.

Understanding the bottleneck issue and not downplaying it. The OP has a P45 board it supports almost all the latest lga775 CPU's inclusive of QX9650 has PCIexpress x16 version 2.0 slots. The possibility (based on CPU) is that OP's computer will not at all bottleneck a GTX460.

Yes, it will be okay. I have a Q9550 with a 9800GTX SLI setup that from my experience I haven't seen a bottleneck.

(Granted, it is an overkill PC for my Dad's Internet/Office PC but it does allow me to have a nice Gamer when I visit the parents.) :lol:

EDIT:
Some more 'food for thought' - Think about the GPU technology available during the LGA 775 heyday in comparison to the GPU technology available during the LGA 1156 and now the LGA 1366. Taking a current mid-end GPU and transplanting it backwards to a generation or two has its' consequences. Similar thoughts are {tecmo34} post to PCIe 2.x -> PCIe 3.x not to mention X58 -> X68; Moore's Law is coming into effect.

My point was to attempt to illuminate the fact of 'bottlenecks' CPU and 'architecture' MOBO; using very simple ratio calculations {X/2 = 5/10 ; 10X = 10 ; X = 1} then noting the disparity in hypothetical vs actual.

That said, I would look at either the GT 430 or GTS 450 both are cheaper, support DirectX 11, and short of 2-5 FPS are a better 'match' for the Q9550 and LGA 775 MOBO.

I wonder why??

Most importantly, it your rig and it makes no difference to my ego which GPU you purchase; if you are thinking about upgrading you entire system soon then a GTX 470 or even GTX 480 {HUGE OVERKILL now but great in a new CPU/MOBO}.

GT430 does not even compare to a 9800GT in performance! It performs lower than a GT240 or a 9600GT.

Then you need to factor in the 'bottlenecking' issue, or do we have to re-start that discussion again.

Hello guys,

I've been following your posts and I think I have a similar issue to Icotua's.

My 8800gts 512 G92 died last week and I am considering purchasing a current gen card.

I'm leaning towards a GTS 450 or Radeon 5770 and just became aware of the new Radeon 6850, but not the GTX460 since I do not think my PSU meets the latter's requirements (24A on +12V rail, not familiar with the matter, lol).

Budget: $130-$200.

System Specs:

Intel E8400 @ 3.0 Ghz
Asus P5K-E Wifi/AP
2 GB Kingston Hyper-X SLI-Ready (Upgrading to 4 GB very soon)
Thermaltake TR2 550W PSU (W0101)
Thermaltake Soprano RS101 Case
Viewsonic 21.5'' 1080p LCD

I am aware of the bottlenecking issue and just want to check if I would do just fine with a 6850.

I'm an occasional gamer but still like to run smooth FPS when gaming.

P.S: motherboard includes one PCIe X16 1.0 and PCIe X4. Not intending to crossfire cards, will PCIe X16 1.0 bottleneck the 6850 ?
