Hi all, the old DQ45CB board based system I put together a couple of years ago has this sporadic issue that usually seems to resolve itself for a while, but has now resurfaced and won't go away.

Whats happening is that when I shut the pc down it shuts down as normal, then after a few seconds the lights come on and the fans spin up for maybe 4 or 5 seconds, then everything goes off again, then a few more seconds later the same things happen, lights, fans, then off, this continues presumably into infinity, I've left it for nearly an hour today to see if it would finally just shut down but it doesn't, and the only way to stop it is to flip the power on the back of the PSU.

The same thing happens when you turn the computer back on, and it's quite a task to get a successful boot at times, combinations of pushing the reset button and holding the power button down for 5 seconds will resolve it but it takes 7 or 8 attempts before it finaly boots.

Searching the web suggests Intel AMT being a possible cause, but no amount of settings adjustment in there has made a blind bit of difference.

Unsure if full specs are needed but just in case they are...

Intel DQ45CB mobo
Q9650 CPU
8gb Samsung ram
Intel 128gb ssd
2x barracuda 500gb HDDs as secondary drives
Samsung dvdrw drive
Gtx550ti GPU
Generic 800w PSU, can't remember what brand it is
Win 10 x64 OS.

I should add that I borrowed a known good 700w seasonic PSU for testing which hasn't made any difference either, as my first thought was a PSU acting up.

If anyone could shed any light on this is would be highly appreciated, I mean it's not really a major issue and the computer still works really well, and is fast for what it is (so glad I went for an SSD) but fudging around down the back of the thing for the PSU power every time is just a bit annoying.

Many thanks in advance :)

You might want to pass on the stickered information for you presumed, generic, PSU. On that note, what is the model for the Seasonic unit you borrowed? How old are the units in question? Are you on the latest BIOS update for your motherboard? Have you seen if the issue persists when you have the system breadboarded?

Thankyou, I should have done a few more things before making this thread because I've managed to fix it, it was the intel AMT settings in the ME part of the bios, changed it so AMT is only enabled in the S0 state, so only when pc is powered on, and is off in all other power states, now it shuts down perfectly and no AMT light anymore. I have had it set up before so the AMT light blinks all the time when the pc is powered off, but it's a home machine and doesn't need any of that side of things so no AMT light is good enough for me,. Thanks again :)
