Hey Intel, how about some last minute 32nm 2.0GHz C2D's?
The C2D (and Celeron/Pentium derivatives) line uses much less power than the LGA 1156 line. Granted you are sacrificing substantial power, even at identical clocks.
I hate the Atom, I'd rather a 32nm ULV C2d...

And honestly, a 2.0GHz C2D E4400 still does just fine for gaming. (No Crysis at max settings, of course.)

So, 2GHz 32nm ULV C2D on a 10" netbook anyone?

Whilst I agree that seeing a 32 NM Core2 CPU would be bad-ass, Intel will never make one... at least not for socket 775.

About the Atom- it's an economy chip. With what little power it consumes, it's a great chip if you look at the big picture. A CPU that's a little slower that a P4 that sips the power. 5 years ago, the Atom would have been Heaven sent; a P4 that does not need a fan, and uses a fraction of the power. 5 years is not a long time (at least historically) in terms of CPU design.

FTR, I wouldn't buy an Atom system... I just think it's nice to have the ultra-low power option if you don't need the speed.

[citation][nom]ptroen[/nom]I want a octocore already. Comeon give me a octocore 🙂[/citation]Technically, the Skt1366 Hyperthreaded i7's are octocore. Aleit 4 cores are logical cores, but the i7 can process 8 threads.

[citation][nom]caustin582[/nom]Uh, what? You want AMD to remain as the cheaper choice just because they're AMD?[/citation]
I think he wants AMD to survive, because if they have to drop prices to keep pace with Intel it will further cut into their already slim margins.

I don't see why everyone is complaining!!!

Core i5 is only $200! It can easily be overclocked to 3.4 - 4.0 ghz! Mobos are cheap. Stable, 1 pcix mobos are around $100. Geez...you can get a great (almost top of the line) cpu and mobo for around $350. I remember when the x2 3800 was a good deal at $300 just for it and the x2 4800 was $900...

For the real mainstream user (eg mostly school, surfing, work pc - the majority of pc users), there is absolutely no reason to go to the Intel sockets. For example, I will pick up the E6500 for my wife's dell (provided it is compatible which it should be since it can except e7000 and q8000 seriers cpus). She mostly surfs the net, types papers, and does mild gaming (L4D 1 and 2 are her favorites). 2.93 ghz C2D is still very powerful and for only $75! Heck I am running an original C2D E6400 (1 mb cache, 2.13 ghz) overclocked to 2.9 ghz with a 5750 I got for $100 and I am playing L4D2 maxed at 1080p with x8 AA and x16 AF.

So WHY does newegg NEVER reflect these prices!

43 bucks for a celeron e3200 that has virtualization support and core 2 duo technology.

i had to pay 49.99 for mine yesterday for my cheap ESXi 4.0 build.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but Newegg has changed. First they got rid of fed ex shipping... and fed ex was great.. hell you'd sometimes get you orders early... not anymore, UPS is never early and just leaves packages on your door step. Most items had a free shipping option, and now most have standard shipping rate. Next day shipping is a joke. And for god sake don't cancel an order, I made that mistake, after a sunday night 5870 order wasn't shipped by tuesday evening, which was a deal breaker for me, because with UPS "most likely" item shipped later than tuesday won't be delivered until the following week. Now Newegg "failed" to release the pending charge on my debit card, so my money will be in limbo for 10 days before my card company will remove it. If anyone knows of any good alternatives to Newegg, please share.

ZipZoomFly or Micro Center (even better if you have a brick-and-mortar version of the latter in your area).

So what? What the news of these old CPUs dropping in price? Am I supposed to jump for joy?! Either sales were starting to sag which means informed buyers are passing uo these CPUs or AMD is about to drop their prices and Intel wants to stay competitive. Even with the lower prices, AMD beat them at the price points.
