Perhaps Intel should woman-up and lower their CPU prices as well. I'm sure that wouldn't hurt Ultrabook prices either. Its good that they're looking to parts manufacturers to lower costs but they should do so themselves. You know? ...set an example.

This is no supprise, battery technolgy is just now in the last few years starting to really change. For a long time they stood still and little was done.
since the PC age and phone, there is a glut of R&D into this and they electronic tech - is advanceing at a higher pase. so Battery tech has some time to make up. But NOTE this. someone out there comes up with a new way that is low cost to manufacture and produce. Plue a alloy that is low cost. lithium is not cheap.
some of the others internal are lower cost but the fab-process is way high.
There is a huge gain for companies to do this. Personaly sanyo is top dog. But I know there is also a company in California that is working on new tech- but they will not fab them in the US> so ether way this is owned by sanyo.

And no intel is not raping the market. Intel knows it has about 3 years left, then arm processors will be able to run a full desktop and maybe even low end server. They are trying be in the relm of arm at the x86 level .
remember intel did at one point own xscale cpu's then sold it.
I would say there regret that move now.

AMD will soon be taken over, I am hoping for Qualcomm to do so.

So instead of cutting processor prices and investing that in better battery technology, they're giving us cheaper batteries, that just may be of lower quality?. Yay.

*Double Face-Palm* How many times do I have to say it? If Intel wants a cheap UB, DROP THE CPU PRICES!!! Also, since they want to add SSD to the mix, drop them also! It doesn't matter what materials the casing uses, or the shape of the battery, or what kind of display it has or the motherboard is a third party construction, AS LONG AS INTEL KEEPS THAT HEINOUS PRICE TAG ON ITS CPUS, IT WILL ALWAYS BE FAR MORE EXPENSIVE!! It would be much better if intel uses a balanced price-performance cpus (Zero celeron, pentium nor atom) maybe the UB won't be that expensive.

Hay Chipzilla spend some clams on your HD graphics drivers, and don't let the laptop OEMs customize your HD graphics drivers, unless the laptop OEMs update their customized intel HD graphics drivers as often as, you Intel, update your genaric HD graphics drivers. It never takes long for Tom's posters to start whining about prices. Intel already dedicated $200,000,000 to subsidize the cost of their hardware and get prices down, but I guess it will never be enough until it's free.

The same will happen to SSDs first they'll put in triple cell, then quadruple cell then quintuple cell SSDs with 2 write cycles. 😀 Or maybe they'll just start putting in the cheapest of mechanical drives. The ones with 3 months warranty that, I am pretty sure, Seagate and Western Digital are about to introduce very soon.

Why all I hear in the comments related to ultrabooks is complainment for CPU's being too costy?
I just looked up, i5 with 2.9ghz M version costs $235. Ultrabooks cost ~1k$ Even if intel give out cpu's for free the price iwll drop just by 80%.
I clearly see no reason to spend 20% of my ultrabook on CPU it has, you do? You want your ultrabook to have cpu which costs 5% of totals?

the best way to avoid high cost and gain performance on graphic without losing battery life was to put the fusion apu in the ultra thin laptops 😉
