Question Intel i3 3.2ghz or intel i7 2.8ghz

I have just obtained a dell Precision T1500 which has a Intel core i3 - 550 3.2ghz cpu but i have knocking around an intel core i7 - 860 2.8ghz cpu can anybody help me decided which is better for the pc. I understand the i3 is dual core and the i7 is quad core but would the difference in speeds be much different?
Normally i wouldn't bother with the upgrade but i have the i7 spare.

The pc is only used for music transfer to minidisc, general internet and word processing plus arduino.

Any help would be great

The i7 is basically twice the cpu that the i3 in benchmarks. Hands down the i7. O👍r thumbs up maybe

i7 definitely, just make sure you have some thermal paste if you plan on replacing the old one.

i7 wins then thanks for the reply's. I have thermal paste already to go. So on with the upgrade
