So im building a pc for my cousin and he has a zoostorm prebuilt, and to save ££ as he is on a tight £350 budget, so i chose him a intel i3 3240, as he has a celeron G1620, and im not 100% on motherboard, but im unsure whether this cpu will be a good choice... he already has 6gb of ram, so he is okay in that aspect, and im getting a different psu and case for him, and gpu... for gpu im edging towards the 270(x)
If you can help me out with any of this, and what else he could recycle from the pc, that would be awesome, he will be playing games like BF4, The Crew, Dayz (maybe) etc on 1680x1050, and im already planning on taking motherboard, ram and HDD out of current pc..
He will be needing with £350:
GPU
CPU
Motherboard (if you go different cpu route)
Case (nice clean one, nothing expensive)
PSU

Any input will be appreciated, as i have a rough idea of what im wanting to build, just not sure if the i3 is the best choice for gaming...

Thanks in advance

Solution
Can he tell you the exact model of the prebuilt and I'll check the type of mobo ? I think it's going to be low-endish anyways so stick with the fx6300 build.
Your thoughts ( With your RAM and HDD , although 6 Gb isn't ideal however since it's a pre-built he should be alright ) :

So you think 6gb will be okay?? and why not the i3? or does the 6300 just dominate it allover? and ive got a 8320 and a r9 290 so i prefer amd, just thought as he has a intel it would be easier!

Well If you could tell me the exact motherboard model , I could go intel route maybe with an older i5.

The 6300 is a better purchase overall over the i3 , they give similar gaming performance in single threaded games however the 6300 shines when overclocked , furthermore it's better in multitasking.

As he lives quite far from me (30 minutes down a motorway) its hard for me to check... Also he needs it ordered before christmas (getting gaming pc for christmas) so yeah...

i think ill go with this option, want him to have the best stuff after all 😉

No it doesn't.

With an i5 and 270x:

Better than FX 6300 and will work with his Motherboard.

shame you didnt include a motherboard in that... otherwise would of worked a treat

Yup. The i5-3330 definitely outperforms the FX 6300 per core and also takes up less power.

oh god yes hahaha, completely didnt even notice that, wow feel very silly now.. think ill go with the i5, or the 6300 depending on what his mam says!
Thanks everyone

yeah, i can get a i5 3550 for £146 delivered... will that be any better than the 3330 mentioned below
