I have heard that k series excels in overclocking but IDK if by that means manual overclocking or does it achieve these results on its own(I am not willing to overclock manually anyway) . So I have planned to update to 12th gen Intel. Found some good deals for either z690m dsh3 gigabyte with i5 12600k or b660m dsh3 gigabyte with either I7 12700F or I7 12700. Thing is that with even I7 12700 it is cheaper than the i5 12600k with z690. So what would be the best option? My goal of usage is gaming and streaming. Would I be missing out anything for that trade between z690m and b660m option? I also have gtx 1660 ti(IK there may be a throttle but I can't afford to change Vega right now I just want to get good mobo and cpu and may change Vega couple months later)

Solution
I am currently almost living under a rock. I am using amd phenom ii x6 1090t black edition with GA gm880 usb3. I feel like 12400/12400f is "almost" same performance with ryzen 5 5600x(I am no expert but some stats I have seen I may be completly wrong) so I wanted to get either 12600k or 12700 so that build give me like at least 4 or 5 more years so when I compared prices 12700 with b660m dsh3 gigabyte board is about 50$ cheaper than z690m dsh3 gigabyte with i5 12600k

12700 would be my bet. Here's the thing with the 12400, 12500, 12600 - they are 6 performance cores, no e-cores. If you are going totally for budget they are perfectly good CPUs and generally will outperform a 5600X, especially if you get the higher clocked 12500...

Cpu wise my pick is the 12700.
Mobo.....read the reviews on the b660m.

12400/12400F on a decent B660 gets great scores for money spent! (Personally, I like keeping my CPU/mainboard for 4-5 years, so would likely opt for Z690 and a 12700K, and then hold it until 14th or 15th gen...)

What are you using currently? (Naturally if on a decent B350/450 that is compatible with a 5600X or 5800X on sale, that becomes a compelling argument which might save a couple hundred dollars....)

The dsh3 has subpar VRM's at best and VRM's mean something with these Intel 11 and 12 gen cpu's when you're looking at an i7 and unlocked i5.

Now the 12600K has 6 performance cores and 4 e-cores, it uses the same die as the higher end 12700/12900, but really it is a reject 12700. 12700 is 8 performance cores, 4 e-cores.

The extra 2 performance cores will probably come in handy, that's what I'd get. The 12600K's only advantage over this would be that it's unlocked for overclocking, but I wouldn't do that with a B660M motherboard.

Below link has a roundup of M-ATX motherboards. Bottom line is the MSI Pro B660M-A was the best, and it's not expensive.

For a B660 board I'd look at the MSI Pro series boards seeing how they have a 12+2 VRM design.

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-B660M-Motherboard-Intel-Socket/dp/B09NTMRRTL/
MSI PRO B660M-A DDR4 $139.99

Same VRM design as the PRO series boards but it's on sale atm.

https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813144528
MSI MAG B660M BAZOOKA DDR4 $139.99
BTW I have one in msi pro series but it is msi b660m pro-E not A with like a price difference of 70$ would it be bad?

I am really grateful for you reply that was so eye opening to me that I now know that vrm thing. So one last question plz:dsh3 mobo has bad VRM so I wanted to ask if it would be better to have 12600kf(or 12600) with msi b660 pro A OR 12700 with b660m dsh3 gigabyte. IK it is better to have z690 with k series BUT I am not planning to "manually" overclock and getting z690 would also be "z690m dsh3 too" and getting non dsh3 would cost from 100 to 120 more dollars. So it would be either 12600KF(or 12600),with msi b660 pro A OR 12700 with b660m dsh3 gigabyte. So what is the best compination from these 3 cpus with those 2 mobo? Is that vrm good or bad design really a big deal someone should bear in mind before making a purchase? I mean IK that 12700 is "quite" better than 12600kf and way better than 12600. I mean should I make the trade off so I can get better processor with bad VRM mobo or should my priority be good VRM mobo first? Thx in advance. Thx man you really helped me out greatly

I wouldn't get a DS3H for anything beyond a 12400/12500/12600 based on the review results. The DS3H simply can't handle more.

The short answer to your question is, you'd be better off with a 12600K + MSI Pro B660M-A than with a 12700 and a DS3H. See charts below.

That said if money is tight there's nothing wrong with a DS3H + 12600 (non K) and that is plenty of CPU for say a 6700XT or 3060 Ti.

With 12700 (no power limit) - The MSI Pro B660M-A is over 30% faster than the DS3H and 30C cooler :

12600K (no power limit) - 20% faster with the MSI Pro B660M-A and 40C cooler board temp :

Even at stock power limits, the DS3H can't keep up with a 12600K with it running 23C hotter than than the MSI Pro B660M-A and still losing 20% of the performance :
