Hello,

I have a homebuilt system with an Intel i5-750 (not OCd, stock heatsink). There is a persistent, high-pitched, but not loud whir coming from the tower (noise does not vary with load). Other components include: Intel X25-M, 5770, Gigabyte P55M-UD2 mobo, and a Corsair 450w PSU. I had a similar noise coming from my T61, but this was resolved by disabling ACPI. This option is not available in BIOS, as expected. I have heard that the Intel whir is common but am unable to solve the issue.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :sol:

Edit: I just noticed that the noise only occurs when Google Chrome is running. (???)

Edit2: Disabling C1E and EIST and Intel Turbo Boost got rid of the whir, but now my average CPU temp is ~5║C higher and my HSF is louder. Should I be concerned about increased power consumption and heat?

Well that are pretty high temps. First check if the thermal paste is applayed correctly, if it is then you're right go and buy some aftermarket cooler.
