Hello, I am upgrading my son's HP Envy 700-074 which comes with an integrated HD 4600. I Bought a used R9 270 and there just doesn't seem to be a boost in performance, although the spcs of the latter demolish that of the former.

Is there some issue with AMD gpus working with Intel CPUs? Should I buy a Nvidia 650 Ti to replace the r9 270? I've been researching for months, and no one site will give a definitive answer
thank you

There are no issues with AMD GPU's and Intel CPU's, if there were AMD would not be in business by now.

I assume You have installed the latest AMD drivers for the 270? Nvidia 650ti is less powerful than a 270 so that
would not be a good idea. Make sure You have turned off (if possible) the onboard video in the bios, and obviously
plug the monitor into the new cards video port (Sorry but I have seen people make this mistake)
Another problem could be that you need to remove any and all traces of the old video cards drivers, You can get a
free driver cleaner program from Guru3d. After running install the new AMD drivers.
Install latest Directx as well as Directx9 for titles like COD that still use it.

I just ran Windows update, 42 critical updates, 5 extraneous, then downloaded the nov 2014 driver, already has the latest Direct x and Open Gl, (12, requires 11)
Installed latest AMD catalyst control.

Seems faster, I don't know what games he is playing, he is out of town for weekend. I think that got it.

machine was flickering and green screening, then locking up with the original install on the r9 270.
