Could you give us some more information on what you may be doing on the system besides any school work?

Unless you are running intensive programs I think the i5 might be more suited for your purposes. Cheaper as well which is great being a student.

Core i5 is currently the sweet spot in terms of CPUS. Core i7 is more expensive, a bit more powerful, but can be crushed by the i5 if the i5 is overclocked. Plus it will save you some money
